About the event
National statistics indicate that a significant proportion of individuals involved with the justice system have experienced trauma. Accordingly, it is advisable for trial consultants to adopt a "universal precautions" approach when providing consulting services. By gaining an understanding of trauma, consultants can respond in ways that are more supportive of trauma-related behaviors, thereby helping to prevent re-traumatization. This knowledge also equips consultants to apply effective de-escalation strategies, fosters the development of juries that are better able to comprehend evidence and arguments, promotes expert testimony informed by clear and trauma-sensitive communication, and facilitates an equitable environment in which both parties in a trial can effectively present their cases.
