For more than 40 years, Richard has helped advance the field of trial consulting through his service to clients, colleagues, ASTC, and the justice system. As President of Decision Analysis, he has participated in thousands of civil and criminal trials, including some of the nation’s most high-profile matters, such as the A$AP Rocky, O.J. Simpson, Casey Anthony, Aaron Hernandez, Phil Spector, Whitewater, and Enron trials. His leadership has reflected a longstanding commitment to improving litigation practice, jury research, and the quality of information clients use to resolve or try cases.

Richard’s service to ASTC has been extraordinary. As a past president of ASTC and former president of the ASTC Foundation, he has dedicated substantial personal time, energy, and resources to strengthening the Society and supporting its mission. Through this work, Richard supported national initiatives focused on litigation efficiency and juror comprehension, satisfaction, and participation in trials.
Richard has consistently worked to improve the justice system through initiatives, including the Rule of Law Project, the Trust in Justice Project, and the Online Courtroom Project. These projects reflect his commitment to improving access, representation, efficiency, and public confidence in the rule of law.

Richard has also made lasting contributions as an author, educator, commentator, and innovator. He is the author of Acquittal: An Insider Reveals the Stories and Strategies Behind Today’s Most Infamous Verdicts, co-author of Jury Selection: Strategy and Science, and author and co-editor of the American Bar Association book The Online Courtroom: The Future of Remote Technology in the Litigation Process. Richard has helped train thousands of lawyers in the art and skill of trial advocacy. He has also served as an expert commentator for CNN and other major news outlets on high-profile trials.
